Ah, Process-Oriented Psychology, the kaleidoscope through which the human psyche can be viewed in all its vivid patterns and shades. Imagine your mind as an ever-flowing river, with currents of thoughts, whirlpools of emotions, and the occasional debris of past experiences. Process Work is akin to the compass and rudder that navigate this river, allowing you to delve into both the conscious and the unconscious waters with finesse.
At the Catharsis Society, we employ Process Work as a map and toolkit, allowing us to traverse the landscapes of your mind. We guide you in discovering the ebb and flow of your internal processes, bringing what is submerged into the light of awareness. This isn't mere excavation; it's a rendezvous with oneself. We address not only disturbances and challenges but also unlock your latent potential, harmonizing the dissonant chords in your inner symphony.
A Process Work session is a bit like jazz improvisation—structured yet spontaneous, both client and therapist attuned to the ever-changing tempo of the inner world.
Imagine stepping into a gallery where each painting is a moment of your life, some vividly detailed, others mere abstract smudges. Together, we stroll through this gallery, your inner landscape, pausing to delve into the stories and feelings that each scene evokes.
The session usually starts with what's most present for you—call it the 'headline news' of your emotional world. Is it a persistent worry, a thorny problem, or perhaps a dream that lingered over your morning coffee? We bring it into focus as if placing a magnifying glass over the words in a cherished novel, allowing the nuances to leap off the page.
Like a compass guided by magnetic north, we follow the flow of your experience, using various techniques to explore the terrain. You might find yourself role-playing different aspects of your identity, like donning masks in a theatrical performance. Or perhaps we'll dive deep into body sensations, those subtle cues that are often drowned out by the cacophony of daily life.
But Process Work isn't a monologue; it's a dialogue between you and the multitudes you contain. Together, we unearth the marginalised voices within you, allowing them a seat at the table of your awareness. At times, we may even court the mysterious—dreams, synchronicities, or that elusive 'gut feeling'—as if they're exotic spices that add zest to our ongoing exploration.
As the session draws to a close, we gather our insights like seashells from a beach walk, each a token of your deepening relationship with yourself. The aim isn't to solve the puzzle that is you but to help you appreciate the intricate artistry with which your complexities weave together.
So, in essence, each Process Work session is a voyage, one where you chart previously unknown territories of your inner world while gaining the tools to navigate them with both courage and curiosity.
Each Process-oriented Psychology session is 60 mins long and facilitated by Process Work Specialist Austin Stewart in our Nowra office. Austin also has the capacity to see his client via Tele-health.
